Rhode Island Boater Practice Test

The safest place to board a boat from dock is from the front or side (bow or stern) because this approach allows for greater stability and control when stepping onto the vessel. Boarding from the bow or stern minimizes the chances of losing balance and falling overboard because these areas are typically more stable than the sides of the boat. This practice also helps to maintain the yacht's balance as the person boards, reducing the likelihood of tipping.

Additionally, accessing the boat from the front or back allows for easier maneuvering and a clear approach, and it often aligns better with how docks are structured, making it a common practice in boating safety. This method discourages boarding from the sides, which can be dangerous if the boat is rocking or if waves are present, as it increases the risk of injury or falling. The focus should always be on maintaining safety and stability while boarding.
